If you’re a fan of fresh seafood, here’s a good news for you. In conjunction with the Merdeka month, Cherry Restaurant in Inanam is introducing the Talapia Set Menu for fish lovers out there. Fresh fish has always been in demand around KK. So, it is a no-brainer for Cherry Restaurant to serve their customers with some freshly-prepared tilapia, specially prepared by a seasoned local chef, Chef Chung Shau Shyong.

I had the chance to taste a the set menu recently and I had a great time eating the dishes. Here’s what you can expect from Cherry Restaurant and their latest promotion.

Four Treasure Seafood Thick Soup

The soup was a great start for the whole meal. It was smooth and seasoned well–there’s nothing much to complain about the soup. The addition of fish maw, mushroom and some other ingredients in it made it extra yummy compared to your usual egg drop soup.

Steamed Tilapia in Hong Kong Style

The tilapia was the star of the whole meal. I was the last one to take the fish, and when it was my turn to get the fish on the Lazy Susan, I was left with only the fish ribs–that’s how delicious the dish was! The fish was only lightly-seasoned, which further highlight the natural taste of the fish. According to the manager, Rosalia Mamporok, Cherry Restaurant’s customer wants their fish to be very fresh, and they really did their customer some justice with the freshness of the steamed fish.

Sesame Fragrant Chicken

If fish is not really your favourite, the set also includes chicken. The chicken was a solid choice, but if I had to pick, the chicken is the weakest dish among all of them. Don’t get me wrong–the dish is still scrumptious and I’d happily eat it every day. But if I had to choose between the tilapia and the chicken, I’d choose the tilapia any day of the week. Having said that, it didn’t stop me from taking seconds of the chicken.

Lamb Ribs in BBQ Sauce

Since I couldn’t get much of the fish, the lamb ribs was a pretty good substitute instead. I had my own fair share of lambs many times before, but I must say that the one in Cherry Restaurant was one of the best one I’ve tasted. Lambs that I’ve tasted were either very chewy or grilled too long to the point of being burnt. The one Cherry Restaurant, however, was soft without being overcooked, which I greatly appreciate. On top of that, the BBQ sauce was delicious and didn’t overpower the taste of the meat itself.

Salted Egg Bean Curd with Fried Potato Flakes

This dish is an interesting one. The egg bean curd was very soft and I was taken aback by it because I thought it would be firmer. But the contrast between the soft texture of the egg bean curd and the crunchy fried potato flakes was very pleasant and I enjoyed the dish very much.

Brocolli with Bailing Mushroom

While I am not a big fan of vegetables, I can certainly appreciate the dish. The broccoli was blanched nicely, bringing out its bright colour and its soft texture. Meanwhile, the bailing mushroom was a delight to eat. Despite its simplicity, it was a solid vegetable dish, one that can be enjoyed by carnivores like yours truly.

Lychee Beancurd

All of the dishes were quite heavy flavour-wise and it can be too much for some people. So it was a delight to have so something light and refreshing to wash down all the heavy taste in my mouth. The light sweetness of the dessert provide a much-needed break from the flavour bombs that the other dishes gave me and it was the perfect dish to end the dining experience.

The perfect restaurant to have fresh fish

Cherry Restaurant’s Tilapia Set Menu was an overall delight to have, especially the steamed tilapia. At RM338+ a set (for 8-10 pax), it was definitely a tad pricier than many other restaurants serving up similar dishes. But in turn, you will get fresh foods that were cooked to a perfection. However, if you are coming in with a smaller group, you can order their Set B, which costs RM168+ a set (for 4-5 pax).

As a side note, the set menu will only be available on weekdays after 6:00 PM and it is strictly for dine-in only. The promotion will run from August until further notice.
