Taylor Swift’s Ready for It music video is filled with a galore of hidden messages.
Whether you’re ready or not, Taylor Swift’s “Ready for it’ music video is now upon us. Directed by longtime Swift collaborator Joseph Kahn, her new video is making the same waves as her Bad Blood MV, except at a different level.
It is a three and a half minutes of spectacular artistry and editing for her latest album, Reputation. In Ready for It, two cyborg Swifts get at it.
The music video takes us to a futuristic world, a mini sci-fi film that stars two versions of Swift herself. It opens with the star dressed in black, donning hood and boots. Her eyes flicker blue.
She’s looking for someone, and we find out that it is a cyborg of herself trapped in a glass case. A little controversial, this one, as the caged Swift is wearing a tight nude bodysuit.
Throughout the video, it’s clear that there is a struggle between one being who controls everything, and the other who lives in a cage. In the cage, however, is a fantastical world where anything seems possible.
It seems there’s a fair bit of lightning play in this video as well. At one point, the caged cyborg places her hand on the glass and shatters it with a mighty roar, revealing that the all-black Swift was really the evil cyborg in the story.
The cyborg gets electrocuted while standing on the platform with the words -“They’re burning all witches.” It all ends as the now-free mannequin Swift climbs up the stairs. For a moment, her eyes flicker blue.
Science fiction aside, many believe the song is about the chronicles of her relationship with Joe Alwyn. (Some boys are trying too hard / He don’t try at all though / Younger than my exes, but he acts like such a man, though,” as the song says.)
Taylor Swift’s “Ready For It” is the latest video in the run-up to the release of her new album. Reputation hits streaming platforms and record stores on Nov. 10, 2017.
