It’s that time of year again.
Yes, it’s time to trawl corporate websites and social media pages for long-awaited CNY ads — always about family, reunions, memories and sublime brand placement in between.
Chinese New Year is always about love, forgiveness and togetherness. While there are always funny ads that stand out, most companies choose to go down the tear-jerking route… and it works. Here are some of our favourites so far!
Mr. Lim’s Reunion Dinner – Singtel
An elderly man prepares a reunion dinner for one, but then, it’s always good to cook more than less.
A Long Way Home – Petronas
On the journey back to his hometown, a young man is impacted by memories with his father.
Your Name, Your Story – Pepsi/7UP
Discover the true meaning of your name, and a father’s love, in this heartwarming ad.
Yomeishu – Reunion Gift
With bittersweet feelings, a newly-married woman realises she cannot spend New Year’s Eve at home this year.
Never Grow Apart – StarHub
In an ang pow from her grown son, a mother discovers love in a greater form.
Chinese New Year is always a time for families to come together, for forgiveness to be extended and love to be the bridge. These ads celebrate all of the above, and more, in short little snippets of life that resonate with so many of us. Of course, making us cry doesn’t help lah.
So, we’ll end with a funny one.
It’s time to HuatAR – Maxis
Listen to the humorous rants and ramblings of a weary, tired lion dancer. It’s a blatant ad for Maxis’ new app too.
